Honors and Awards

CVCS honors students’ various achievements and celebrates them. The Awards and Honors slide provides an easy-to-follow guide for understanding award eligibility. Below are the various high school awards students can earn upon graduation.

Academic Decathlon:

Students who participate in the Academic Decathlon for at least 2 years will be awarded a red/white/blue cord.

A-G:

Students who meet the UC/CSU A-G college entrance requirements are awarded a blue cord.

College/Career Indicator:

Students who meet the “Prepared” criteria for the College Career Indicator are awarded a green cord.

Community Service:

Students must be enrolled in the Community Service class and complete at least 60 hours of verified community service per semester.  Students will earn a purple cord if enrolled for 1-2 years and a purple/silver double cord if enrolled for 3-4 years.

CTE Pathway:

Students who complete both a Concentrater and a Capstone class in a CTE Pathway are awarded a red cord.

Golden State Merit: 

Students who demonstrate a certain level of mastery in their curriculum are eligible to receive a Golden State Seal on their high school diploma. Students must meet all eligibility criteria in at least 6 subject areas. For more information, please visit the Golden State Merit website. 

GPA Honors: 

Students who earn a high enough GPA are awarded Honor Roll (3.5-3.74), Salutatorian (3.75-3.99), or Valedictorian (4.00+) status. The Weighted GPA will be used to calculate honor roll status. Honors, AP, and some community college courses receive an extra grade point in the GPA calculation. 

Honor roll students are awarded a white cord to wear for the graduation ceremony. Salutatorians are awarded a double gold cord for graduation. Valedictorians are awarded a medal for graduation. 

National Honor Society:

Students who are members of the National Honor Society will be awarded a blue/gold cord.

State Seal of Biliteracy: 

Students who have achieved a high level of literacy and fluency in one or more languages in addition to English will receive a California State Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diploma. For more information, please visit the California State Seal of Biliteracy website.

*Students who are promoted from the Adult Transition Program are awarded a light blue cord at graduation.
